Before Applying.
Before students can apply to the School Library Media Program they must meet the following admission requirements:
- Enrollment in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at Dominican University.
- Successful completion of the State of Illinois Basic Skills Test. (For test information, visit http://www.isbe.net/teachers.htm.)
- Completion of or enrollment in: LIS 701, LIS 703, LIS 704, and LIS 773.
The Application.
A complete application includes the following:
- the application, filled out completely and signed.
- a 600-700 word essay which addresses: 1) your goal of becoming a school library media specialist as it relates to Dominican University’s conceptual framework of scholarship, leadership and service. 2) how you believe you will contribute to the field of librarianship generally and to school library media specifically.
- evidence of successfully passing a national fingerprint-based background investigation. The School of Education has coordinated with Accurate Biometrics to provide fingerprinting to Dominican students for a fee of $52 (to be paid by the student). You must bring a copy of the Fingerprint Applicant Form (below) with you to Accurate Biometrics in order to have the check completed.

Transcript Review.
Prospective SLMP students who already hold an ALA-accredited MLIS degree will need to have their graduate transcripts and professional work experience reviewed by the SLMP Director to assess the courses required to complete certification requirements.
