Clinical Practice
Clinical Practice includes both the pre-clinical and clinical experiences that are required of any candidate seeking State of Illinois certification as a library information specialist. Clinical experiences allow the student to put into practice the knowledge gained from course work. Students complete pre-clinical and clinical experiences in a variety of school library settings.
Objectives for candidates participating in the clinical practice in school library media are:
- to gain practical experience in elementary, middle, and secondary library media centers,
- to identify areas of strength and areas for continuing improvement, and
- to develop professional attitudes and effective interpersonal relationships in the school environment.
The Coordinator of Clinical Practice, Alexis H. Sarkisian, works closely with each student to secure a placement in a school library media program that will afford a rewarding learning experience.
