Clinical Experience Seminars

Two seminars are held each semester (Spring and Fall) for candidates enrolled in LIS 728 Clinical Experience I- Student Teaching and LIS 729 Clinical Experience II- Internship.  The director of the School Library Media Program, the coordinator of clinical practice, and the university supervisors conduct the clinical practice seminars.  The purpose of the first seminar is to acquaint the candidate with the clinical experience including the best practices journal requirement, the possible components of the experience, and the expectations of the university supervisor’s visit. The second seminar is designed to assist candidates in the completion of their clinical experiences, graduation, certification, and to introduce the administrative certification procedure for future consideration. Topics of the seminars vary but include answering questions candidates may have regarding their clinical experiences, information on certification requirements, and current news regarding courses and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Candidates are expected to participate in roundtable discussions on best practices and to bring appropriate materials to share with colleagues at the culminating seminar.  All candidates enrolled in LIS 728 or LIS 729 are required to attend both seminars.
